transferring from cc vs. private 4 year university

are gpa's from these two weighed differently, or are they looked at more or less as identical?

It depends on WHICH private 4 yr university, you could be talking about a highly selective, top 25 school or a relatively non-selective, little known private. There are several threads on this forum discussing CC transfers and the importance of the school you’re transferring from, just use the Search function.

I did search, couldn’t find anything. :frowning:

I mean of course transferring from a top 25 school looks better than doing so from a cc, but what going from a less prestigious school? For example University of San Diego, where I currently attend. Ranked probably 100th or something, although the undergrad business school is usually ranked in the top 20-30.

I don’t know whether, say, a 3.5 here would be weighed more heavily than a 3.5 at a cc.

You’re right, it’s a hard topic to Search, not specific enough.

Yes, transfer schools do to some extent consider your gpa in relation to the school you’re coming from, whether it’s a CC or 4 year. And even within CCs, they are not all equal in their academic quality. However, since admissions decisions are made based on many factors, it’s really difficult to say how much they weight the school you currently attend.

It seems like the transfer school would also want to know your reason for transferring to a CC from USD (cost, etc.).
