Does strength of school matter when transferring?

Should I go to CC to raise my terrible GPA?

If you are not doing well at your first school, and you believe that you will do better and be happier at the CC, then by all means transfer there. Don’t worry right now about whether or not the CC is “as good as” the place you are leaving. Worry about getting your own self into a place where you can be successful. In the end, that is what really matters.

I believe it does. I don’t think it is a good idea to take courses at CC when you have taken classes at a 4 year university and did bad in them. This shows that you can not handle 4-year university’s college level work and trying to take the easy way out by going to a CC.
Don’t get me wrong, I myself is a community college student who is planning on transferring to a 4 year university.

The transition should be from a CC to a 4-year university, not the vice versa.

They will consider where you’re coming from though. To a point a lower gpa at a top school will look much better than a high gpa at a CC. I’m not saying a 2.5 at a great school, but a 3.0 or better will probably be more impressive than anything you can get at a CC if your original school is good enough.
