Transferring from Hong Kong to US ?

I'm a Year 1 Law student currently studying in the University of Hong Kong.

Because of an "Early Admissions scheme", I entered the University of Hong Kong without completing my high school education. I started university at 16 years old.

However I feel that if I got a chance to make the choice again, I would have pursued my dream of studying in the United States. I'm now 17.

I am very interested in transferring to an Ivy League or some top 20 universities for Fall 2011 or Spring 2012.

I have not taken SATs before.

Would it be possible for me to apply to transfer via the Common App?

Would I need teacher recs?

I only started 3 months into my uni and feel Law is not right for me.

Thanks ever so much and it's my first post.

Law is not an undergraduate degree in the US. You will need to contact the schools you are interested in and explain that you are studying law at an international university and want to attend. Some colleges may consider you a transfer student; others may consider you a freshman applicant. It is better to be considered a freshman applicant because generally freshman acceptance rates are higher than they are for transfers. (Note: colleges will tell you if you are a transfer or a freshman applicant. You don’t get to decide which status you want to apply under).

Most top 20 schools will want SAT scores. You will need professor recs.

Carotene, good choice. Leaving China isn’t something you should regret.

Thanks guys, I have a problem though.

First, my GPA would be quite low, possibly a 3 or 3.2. That is because my faculty of Law is really harsh and generally the average GPA is a 2.8. Would the US understand this at all when looking at my application?

And I’m thinking of doing a Spring 2012 transfer. I would be able to apply by October 1st 2011. I would then do SATs in May 2011. Would that be too late?

I’m so miserable in my university now.
