I currently go to school out of state, but my family lives in California. I do not like my current school and am considering a transfer. However, I am worried about the impacted/admission guaranteed program in place. I’m assuming that this will keep me from transferring considering the fact that I am currently out of state? I have a 3.5, am looking to change majors, and am missing some prerequisites as well. (My major does not require a transferable class in mathematics). Should I even bother with trying to transfer to a CSU or a UC?
UCs and CSUs are only accepting transfers with Jr status (60 semester, 90 quarter units) A 3.5 is pretty solid, I’d imagine you can find your way into a few UCs and most CSUs. Of course, you’d be applying for Fall 2016 - Are you willing to stay where you are until then?
If so, pick a couple of target schools and contact them directly. Be sure you are signing up for courses that will meet their requirements.
Another option would be to come home, attend a local CC next year, take your required classes then transfer.
Good luck
Considering the fact that I’m going into my junior year, wouldn’t it be pointless to stay put? I think that from a time standpoint, staying where I am and changing majors is a sound decision, but I’m not a huge fan of my school or the city it is in – it makes sense for the program I’m in, but it doesn’t really make sense if I change to a different major. It’s just an okay school. This is what I’m trying to figure out with my parents now – essentially if I want to stick it out, continue paying out of state tuition, and finish here, or if I want to go home, go to a CC, and then transfer.
If I’m a music major now, and I want to switch to a business related major. Would I have trouble with having too many transfer credits considering most of my credits are in music? (Theory, ear training, private lessons, ensembles, piano, etc.) Or would these courses be non-transferable and not count against me because they have nothing to do with the major I want?
