Transferring?

Hi all, sorry if this isn’t in the correct forum, I didn’t see a transfer selection…
So I’m currently a CA resident wanting to go OOS for school. I just feel that there is much more to life than CA, and ive never really left the state, so I want to take college as a time to explore and find out who I really am. My family and I are very close, and it makes me anxious to think about leaving them behind. This may sound childish and silly, but I feel like if I go OOS I would get too homesick. I’m thinking about going to MSU or UI.
If I were to go to one of those schools, but then decided I couldn’t handle it and came back to CA to attend UC Riverside for my sophomore year, would I have to pay OOS fees, or would I still be able to pa resident fees if my family and household is still in CA?
Thanks for any help!

UC Riverside only accepts Junior level transfers (60 semester/90 quarter units) and you would have to reapply as a Transfer if you go OOS. You would still be considered a CA resident as long as your parents remain in CA, so if you come back to CA for school, you would pay in-state rates.
Are you a rising HS senior or in-coming Freshman College Student? Have you been accepted to any of these schools or are you figuring out which colleges to apply?

Thank you for your answer! I am a rising HS Senior  I will be applying in the fall. My schools are all OOS, and I am very very confident that I will get in. I just didn’t want to go OOS, then deal with more OOS fees if i decide to return to California.

How will your parents pay OOS fees when you go out of state? Can they afford that?
California is really big, have your visited the whole state? Schools in California are not only geographically different but extremely different in their themes. Do you have safeties?

What are your parents saying about paying OOS fees to MSU or IU?

We can afford the OOS fees, but my parents want me to stay in state only for the fact that they want me in close range… They said the choice was up to me though. And if I were to go to a school in CA, I would only go to a UC. The total prices for the UCs I want to go to are ultimately the same as OOS’s, with maybe only $2-3 thousand difference.
