Transferring In and Out of the UC System

Does anyone know if transferring out of the UC system and then reapplying to get into it is frowned upon?

For example:
Finish freshman year at UCSB, leave UCSB and attend a CC for a year, reapply at UCSD.

The reason for leaving is solely because of the environment. No financial issues, average GPA (3.3), etc.

Does it make it nearly impossible to get back in once you leave the UC's?

If you want to get into UCSD, you probably should up the GPA a few points. I would recommend just to tough it out at UCSB, bring up the GPA and then transfer. Good luck!

Thanks Cary Morimoto.

Anyone else have an opinion?

any juco transfer is considered a juco transfer. The UCs do not frown upon stepping back -- many do have financial situations -- but, you will need a solid gpa from the community college to transfer.

Thank you bluebayou.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't like UCSB. You should look into the guaranteed admissions programs most UC's have with the CC's. You need to complete a certain number of units at the CC with a specified GPA, and you can get the required number of units in only 1 year at the CC.

A link to the program at UCSD is Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) 2009-2010

I think BlueBayou is right. Someone transfer out of an Ivy school to CC and got into UCLA. So UCs treats anyone from CC the same regardless of what institution that person attends before CC.

Thanks everyone. That's great news for me.
