Transferring into a Canadian university

Hi guys,

I'm currently studying Electrical Engineering in Imperial College London, and since the first term, I had already begun hating the course. However, I decided to "stick with it and see if it gets better" and now, the third term which is a revision term ( we finished all lectures for the first year already), I have just decided (so very late) I want to transfer out and do something else instead of electrical...possibly mechanical since I want to enter into renewable energy.

I thought electrical at Imperial would allow me to focus on more of the large scale electrical engineering stuff, and not the small scale...and i was so terribly wrong, since my course is called "electrical and electronic engineering"....and guess what in this first year I had to learn a lot about circuits and transistors and mosfets, semiconductor devices and fourier transform and fourier series for signals, and programming (which I absolutely detest) and some other really dull courses. So the entire year went by and I had to sit through lectures that I had no interest in the first term and completely hated in the second term. I believe mechanical engineering might be a better choice for me...but I'm almost finished with first year (may) and have my exams in early June....so I'm just wondering if it's possible to still transfer into the first year (or second year) of a co-op waterloo mecheng program?

(I was accepted before for Electrical Eng Co-op for waterloo and also for UofT and was offered scholarships for both but I rejected them and chose Imperial which now I hate and want to leave).

I have tried to force myself to be interested in the electrical stuff they they teach here at Imperial, but I can't. Even when I have nothing else to do (no games to play, no tv to watch) I don't want to read my notes because they are just so damn dull. I made a terrible choice going into Electrical....something I now know that is clearly not for me because I hate it so much!

I know this is my fault since I didn't do enough research into electrical before applying to that program in all my applications....but now I want to transfer out before second year, I'm afraid I might not be able to since it's already may!

Also, there's another reason why I want to transfer back to Canada. It's because I want to work here in the future, so I just thought that getting some co-op experience with waterloo in mech eng (seems way more interesting than Electrical here at Imperial) would be more beneficial than just continuing my studies at Imperial with a different major (which I don't think they'd allow and I hate it here anyways). Plus, the fees here in canada is way cheaper since I'm a resident (it's around CAD$10k (5 year co-op program or 4 year non-co op) per year compared to GBP 23k for Imperial (3 year BEng)

My options (are there more?):
1."stick with the course" until I get my BEng (2 more years) and do masters in Canada
2. transfer out after second year (the problem here is my courses may not transfer credits over and I won't get to go straight into mech eng-->is this correct?)
3. transfer out before second year into either first year Mech Eng or 2nd year mech eng? (transferring into 2nd year might not work because they are different programs?)

What do you guys say? I have heard a lot of advice before in High School that I should do what I like...and I did act on that advice and since I thought Electrical Eng would fit the renewable energy work I would do in the future, I chose that....but now that I look at some of the Mech Eng courses I'd rather learn about those things instead of what I'm learning here at Imperial for Electrical. So because of my lack of research and ignorance, I have now "wasted" a year here at Imperial doing something I hate and am having trouble leaving...please offer some advice!

Ok guys, I called both waterloo and UofT and I’m way past the deadline, so I can’t hope to get in to any university for this fall 2012 admission this late. My plan right now is to apply for 2013 fall admission into either a first year mech eng program in Waterloo or a transfer into UofT upper year mech eng program. If I am allowed to transfer into UofT, then I will go there since I can finish my program faster (and doing something I might find more interesting than electrical eng) and possibly might even get to go straight into second year for mech eng. But if I can’t transfer any credits over from my Electrical Eng program from Imperial, then I will choose Waterloo due to its co-op program.
