I got into Cornell this spring but after the waitlist process ended I won several very prestigious awards (national and international). My parents think that I would have a much higher chance of getting into Columbia, Penn, or even HYP if these awards come out later. Do you think I should take a shot at transferring to those schools? I plan on working in finance/consulting where the prestige of your undergrad definitely impacts how far you’ll go.
Personally, I don’t think I vibe at Cornell and would much prefer an urban location, but that might just be Zoom U.
I would say try Wharton but not the others. (The recruitment for IB is only slightly better if that than Cornell) Add Georgetown, Stern, Northwestern, and Uchicago for the “urban location.” TBH though unless you hate Cornell you’re better off staying. Prestige/recruitment at Cornell is basically as good as it gets.
If you are interested in business/consulting, then you need to look at the business schools and the hiring of those colleges. Just because you graduate from a HYP doesn’t mean you’re going to get a job in those fields. Wharton is the #1 business school in the country. If your goal is to instantly get a job in business or consulting, and you want to leave Cornell, then start there.
@luigardner Northwestern doesn’t have an undergraduate business program, so no, that is not a place to go if you’re interested in business/finance or consulting. I live hear. If the person wants U-Chicago then they better be prepared to transfer into Economics, for the same reason.
But agree, Cornell and Dyson grads will get the top jobs in NY. You can of course apply to all those schools, but if you already transferred into Cornell, not sure how a double transfer is perceived. If anything it may be looked at negatively and with jobs even more so. You probably are best off just sucking it up and staying.
