My senior year of high school I got into what was then the school of my dreams. I applied single choice early action and didn’t apply anywhere else since I was so sure that I wanted to go there. Quite frankly, I haven’t enjoyed my time here much at all. I’ve found it very hard to make good friends despite being involved in several clubs and a church group on campus. I feel incredibly stressed all the time, and I’m not looking forward to heading back to school in a few days. I’ve been thinking about transferring for awhile, but I honestly have no idea where to even start looking since I had a very rough freshman year and ended up with ~2.7 GPA (It should come up a bit this semester since I’ve been doing better in my classes). The only thing I’ve really enjoyed were the classes in my major, but I feel like I’m really missing out on the college experience outside of that. My parents don’t seem to be in favor of me transferring, so I’d really like to hear some other opinions. Thanks in advance!
Do whatever makes you happy and comfortable. Honestly, that is the advice I could give you. Just because “Ivy League” is attached to a school it DOES not mean you will be comfortable. It is affecting your GPA. I suggest you do what YOU want. Whatever will benefit your future career etc. Good luck brother or sister! lol
My niece attended an Ivy League school for four years but only had under two years of credits. She took a leave of absence for a year (required by the school. They wouldn’t grant a semester off) and worked in the city where she went to school. I think it was a bit unusual because she still lived with all her roommates in an off campus situation. She couldn’t be active in her sorority or other clubs during her year off. Every situation is different but I think that she would have been better in a smaller school. In addition, she had a sick parent and was far from home. When her class graduated she just left. After a few years she is now just starting school again. She has chosen to go to school in Canada. It is cheaper and money is an issue. In addition, she has chosen an school that specializes in older students reentering the classroom. Is there someone that you speak to honestly at your Ivy League school (a kind administrator or religious figure on campus). Sometimes he helps to talk with an educator to help you sort through your experiences and emotions.
