I didn't find a thread on this. I just want to know if it makes a difference which you apply for?

I realize that if one were admitted for the summer that they'd have to take classes immediately basically. Is there anything they do to ease the transition? Is there housing available?

in terms of selectivity, i don't think it matters at all.

i'm not sure what you mean about "take classes immediately" ... is the summer notification really close to the first day of summer classes?

Transferring for the summer quarter might be a nice way to get a feel for the campus, and break into the quarter system at a slow pace (the summer is noticeably more relaxed & easier than the regular session) so when fall rolls around you already have a feel for the university and aren't overwhelmed at being on a new campus, meeting new people, taking new classes, etc.

that being said, i transferred in the fall and it was not a difficult transition really at all. There is housing available both in the summer and fall, though obviously there will be many more students on campus in the fall.

In either case, at the beginning of fall quarter there is wildcat welcome where they acquaint you with the school and help you become orientated with your classes, the campus, etc.

hope this helps, good luck!

I think they'd have to get back to me quickly (because I believe summer quarter begins in June). I also want to make sure they get my grades for this semester as well. With that said, I'd definitely be interested in taking classes over the summer. I could catch up in areas that I know I'll have to catch up on and I can get a feel for the campus. I can get used to the quarter system. I can eat Chicago Deep Dish Pizza! Northwestern seems like a school that would be amazing during the summer. We'll see.

you can take classes over the summer without being an accepted student, and then apply for Fall with your second-semester grades.

That's true, but I'm not sure that I want to be at Northwestern this summer...especially if I'm rejected. It would just be weird for me. Also, I'm supposed to take care of my house and the pets for a month as my parents and sister are in India.
