transferring to CALTECH

i couldnt find anybody who transferred from a community college to california institute of technology so i have to post this: did anybody transfere to CALTECH from a CCC? it would be helpful to know what they are looking for as far as GPA, EC, essays, SATs etc.

from what i know....pasadena city college produced one of them like a year or two ago......that chick had a 4.0 in CC and an excellent recommendation from a part time professor who has been working at jpl for a few decades

After I saw from Caltech's website, for 5 years, Caltech total admitted 31 students from CC nationwide, I am not surprised to see there's nobody here talk about Caltech transfer.
<a href="http://admissions.caltech.edu/admissions/transfer%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.caltech.edu/admissions/transfer</a></p>

hey, useful stats there!!!

but just by reading the stats....caltech's admission rate for CC students aren't bad at all!.....roughly 10% which is in line with other highly rated universities

From what I've been told, it really doesn't matter about SAT scores or E.C. Rather, if you do well on the transfer admission exam, it's pretty much a good indicator if you're Caltech material.

From the website:
All applicants are required to take Caltech Transfer Entrance Examinations in mathematics and physics. These exams are taken after candidates submit a transfer application to Caltech. Instructions for obtaining the examinations are included in the application. Performance on the entrance exams will be evaluated in the context of the applicant's preparation in the field, although one year of university-level mathematics (basic calculus) and physics (mechanics and electromagnetism) are assumed. Students must also find a proctor at their home institution to administer the exam. The math exam is appoximately four hours and the physics exam is three hours.

I've also heard that are additional options which include linear algebra. Please note, from what I've been told, these tests are not easy. You need a lot of review and dedication since so much is covered.

In regards to the PCC students who transfer over to Caltech, a lot of them are International Students who come over here for a degree with some experience in college. The previous Caltech transfer, Brian, I believe had 2 years at Shanghai University? He knew the material and the courses at PCC were a review for him for the exam. A lot of the PCC-Caltech transfers also get recommendations from the "Caltech Cheerleader" professor. You know who I am talking about since this professor keeps boasting about the transfers...

would that be dr. shi or so i've heard?

Hello, I am interested in applying to transfer to Caltech from a Chinese university, and I wonder if you could give me a link to the post where the previous transfer Brian has posted? I suppose he may be able to give some specific info on transfering from a Chinese institution. Thanks a lot!!
