I really want to transfer to Cornell but is it possible considering my math classes are hindering me from meeting the requirements?
I currently am entering second semester of my freshman at a top 50 university. I want to transfer to Cornell’s business school.
I currently have credits for:
-2 semesters of English (ACT’d out of first one)
-Microeconomics
I also have around a 3.6 GPA.
My problem is my math. In first semester I was put in a low math (algebra for college students) and I didn’t bother to appeal at the time because I didn’t think I would transfer even though I would’ve certainly been placed higher.
You need:
Calc
Statistics
My school also has a weird math track. It’s like Algebra(s1 freshman)->Precalc(s2 freshman)->Calc1(s1 soph)->Calc2(s2 soph)->Statistics
Am I f*cked? Could I transfer at end of second semester sophomore year and say I am technically enrolled in Stats? I really want to apply but is my only hope to study and test out of them? Need advice please
Hey there in a similar situation as you are. I asked admissions but a different school within Cornell and they said they will look at why you were not able to take those classes. Can’t speak on your school assuming Dyson but for CALS I was told there has been exception before where those who did not complete ALL classes were still accepted.
Also they suggested to consider summer school or similar alternatives before the term starts. One thing them emphasized is how rigorous the courses you will have and how they will take them into account.
Personally, I left school for sometime and without tests scores I had to start from the very bottom math sequence so I really feel your pain and wishing you luck. Hopeful this helps somehow, I would personally still apply if I were you and avoid the guilt of not trying!
@strafed do you go to University of Miami? Take a stats class offered by the psychology department, it works. Also take the ALEKS exam and get placed into Calc. I am also at UM and thinking of transferring to Cornell CALS. I am a pre med student and my GPA is 3.93.
