I’m currently a sophomore at a small, private liberal arts school in Pennsylvania that is highly respected and a little more than moderately difficult to get into. To make it short, I really don’t like it here for every reason you could think of. The psych department here was a huge let down and I’m sick of being around people who are miserable and rude. The weather isn’t lovely either.
My aunt lives in Atlanta and I’m staying with her there for the summer (yay!), and transferring to a school in Georgia in the fall. I like what I’ve seen from both of the GSUs, but I’m worried about getting in.
Last semester, I became extremely depressed and I didn’t try hard enough in any of my classes. This semester I’m on academic probation and should be ending the spring term with about a 2.7 GPA. I’m waiting for final grades to be put in before I send my transcripts. I also got into too much trouble with the law last semester unfortunately, receiving an underage drinking citation and having another one plead to public drunkenness so I wouldn’t lose my license for longer (both of which were not near my college). When I was 16, I unfortunately also got an underage drinking citation then too.
Stupid decisions, no one needs to tell me because I know haha. Good news is, I’m in counseling now, on a new anti-depressant, and have been learning how to cope with stress without alcohol and learning my limits.
Georgia requires applicants to inform them of any violations of the law, so of course I had to put all three of those shameful decisions on my applications. I feel like these are really going to hurt my chances and I’m really looking forward to going down south. What are your thoughts? Is there anything I could possibly do?
