I desperately want to go to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or Columbia but unfortunately I was either denied or did not apply. If anyone can offer advice to get in as a transfer in a year or two or can help mitigate the disappointment I have had for this admissions cycle it would be greatly appreciated. I got into Northwestern, Notre Dame, UCLA, and USC all with some sort of scholarship. WL at Berkeley and I am hoping to get in off of the waitlist.
laker,
It is 10X’s HARDER to get into HYP as a transfer student than as a freshman! Each year there may be only a handful of spots that open up for transfer students at those 3 schools, and that only happens if someone decides to leave, which doesn’t happen too often. Would you want to leave HYP?
thought not…
Swallow your misplaced disappointment and bloom at one of the U’s where you have been so fortunate to be accepted!
No eyes are weeping for you …
Princeton does not accept transfer students.
What you must know that all transfer spots are tied to attrition. With attrition at less than 2%, there are very very few spots. Next, Princeton, does not accept any transfers. Harvard and Yale do, but it must be very compelling and usually tied to ones major or topic of interest, and this assumes you are qualified for admission. I would not say its ten times harder, but the admission rate is at about 2%, making it a very unlikely scenario. I don’t want to dissuade you or be totally cynical, as I actually know a couple of transfer students (and to boot, they came from community colleges, but they had very compelling and qualified cases), but your efforts would probably be more productive aimed at some other schools.
OK, why do you desperately want to transfer? You got in to some really good schools, some of whom will offer you as many good opportunities as those schools you want to transfer to.
Stop being so desperate.
Princeton is the most intriguing on your list, since it would require reincarnation. If you pull it off, and CC is still in existence, please come back and let us know.
Meanwhile, make peace with the schools that did accept you.
