Hi there--

I applied to Reed as a senior in high school, was accepted, and decided to attend a different school. (Which was absolutely the right decision-- I was not ready, at 17, for an academic environment like the one at Reed.) I've since moved out of the country and am in my second year of college, going to school in Austria. However, I'm looking at reapplying to Reed and starting as a sophomore (basically doing 5 years of college).

I emailed the admissions office about a week and a half ago, asking questions about the process, but have not heard back-- I was hoping that someone here might be able to shed some light on this for me.

First of all, is it going to hurt my transfer application that I was accepted before but chose not to attend? Do admissions officers see it as a sort of, "You had your shot" situation?

Is it likely that my previous application is still on file? If not, would it be appropriate to include my previous essays and recommendations in addition to the ones required for transfer students?

Because I'm living in Austria, interviewing is not going to be possible. How common are phone interviews, and how do they vary from face-to-face interviews?

Looking at financial aid, the website states that institutional aid
is only available for 8 semesters, including semesters at different
institutions. Because Reed is hesitant to take transfers at junior status, would I be ineligible for institutional aid/need based grants during my senior year at Reed (my 5th total year of college)?

Thanks a lot!
