I'm considering a transfer to the Ross School of Business for a variety of reasons. I'm a freshman at Brown, and I'm starting to realize that I need a more business-centric environment. At Brown I'm part of the Brown Investment Group, a finance employee for the Brown Daily Herald, and I'm fulfilling all of Michigan's course requirements for Ross transfer students.

I got into Michigan as an in-state student this year, but turned it down. Would the admissions staff frown upon my decision? I had a 4.2GPA in HS, and a low 30's ACT.

Transferring to an undergraduate business school from a different university is almost impossible. I would suggest staying at Brown, doing well in classes, and gaining leadership positions in the Brown Investment Group.

Brown does very well in Consulting and Finance recruitment so you won’t be lacking for any opportunities there.

I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m at Michigan now and I’m nervous about getting into Ross myself. Besides, a college degree from Brown stands out. And I seem to recall you being pretty pumped about getting in there. You spent quite a bit of time talking about how awesome Brown is… especially during your first hour.

I love it here haha sorry for not making that clear. Michigan is just cheaper so I thought I’d throw a Ross app their way. Brown is beyond wonderful

The OP loses nothing by applying to Ross, but the odds are not good. The Brown academic experience is excellent and certainly on par with Michigan, and, as hopeful7 points out, a degree from Brow stands out (as does a degree from Michigan). If the OP gets into Ross, and come May, feels strongly about transfering to Michigan, I don’t see why he shouldn’t.

I agree with Alexandre. Other than the application fee and the time to fill out the application, there is nothing to lose. The application is not due until March, so I would try not to think about for the rest of the semester. After finals, if you still feel the way you do now, then apply. You may lose interest in transfering as the semester goes on. There is nothing in the Ross curriculum that would put you at a disadvantage for having gone to Brown but as stated above they take much fewer transfer students than they used to so the odds of getting in may be small. In any event you seem to be in good shape. Brown is a great school and will afford you a lot of opportunities. Good Luck!!

I think the OP should definitely consider transferring to Michigan IF the costs are considerably lower. TBH, Brown is not worth tens of thousands of dollars more/year than Michigan.
