I am from Massachusetts and absolutely hate my school I am currently at. I am looking to transfer to Texas next year but really nervous about going across the country and it not being what I thought. I would just like some opinions about the school and if it is worth it.

This is all hearsay, but people like it.

It has a strong theater/music dept and strong graphic arts program. Smart kids who want to major in the arts/applied arts (like music therapy) choose Texas State, sometimes over UT. I haven’t heard about other programs.

It isn’t located in a big town, but is near some outlet shopping malls and a world class water park fwiw. It is mid way between Austin and San Antonio, and there is pretty good transportation to these larger cities (Megabus).

Like many colleges in Texas, Texas State is growing and changing rapidly. I think it used to be a CC, then became a four year, then changed its name and is now a four year university with an improving reputation. It is benefitting from Texas’ population growth and from the 7% rule at UT.

Can you contact some current students? I think there is a Facebook group for transfer students that was recently set up.
