Okay, I'm particularly worried about a C I received for the spring '08 semester. I'm planning on transferring to UCLA and considering maybe a major in Psychology, English, or something else. I'm still very indecisive and unsure as of now, but open.

I got a C in Math 71 (Intermediate Algebra) and I can only blame myself because I fell behind. Anyway, I just wanted to know what are my chances of getting into UCLA with my current grades.

I also plan on doing TAP.

Spring '08
AHIS6 (History of Modern Art): A
ARTD15A (Drawing: Beginning): A
ENGL1C (English: Critical Thinking): A
MATH 71: C
PSYC1A: A

As of now my cumulative GPA is a 3.44 and IGETC is a 3.56 (Does this matter?)

I'm currently taking AHIS5 (Art History Renaissance - Modern) & MATH110 (Elementary Statistics).

I'm just concerned whether the C will hurt me since the class doesn't qualify for IGETC.

why didnt you just take it for credit/nocredit because its not even a transferable course...

If it's a pre req for a transferable math class the C won't hurt you, but just in case maybe try to change the grade to Passing if it's not too late and your school will let you.

Ugh.. I was totally unaware of that. I'm not sure if it's too late, it probably already is, or I can just petition.

It's just a pre-req to get into any math 100+. I should have taken credit/noncredit though but I dont know if it really hurt my GPA.

Before spring, my cumulative GPA was a 3.43
and now it's a 3.44

my IGETC gpa bumped up too.

Math 71 is Intermediate Algebra at my school too. People only take it to get to a 100 level class.

UC admissions won't even look at it. You're good to go as far as that is concerned.

Something similar happened to me (except it was a B in a ruthless chemistry class over summer) and I took it as a strong warning, or a shot across the bow if you will, that there is no time to be playing around anymore. Make sure from here on out you earn the grades you are capable of and good luck to you!

You can get an F in a non-transferable class and you'll still be ok. The only classes the UC's look at are the transferable classes and from those classes they derive your GPA.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! :)

Sorry unchimon, but some schools and majors look at your overall GPA for admissions. I got 2 C's in math pre-req classes but I still got accepted to UCB for the fall because the College of Letters and Science only looks at the UC transferable GPA. I copied and pasted some info I found off of a link. You might want to consider your major carefully if you really want to go to UCLA.

UCLA: The role of the GPA in admissions depends on the major. For applicants to majors in all Life Sciences, Economics and Psychology, both the overall GPA and the GPA for the courses required for major preparation are considered in the selection process. In other majors, only the overall UC-transferable GPA is considered.
