Transferring..

Long story short, I think I might have to transfer schools because my dad got a job offer that is almost halfway across the country and he'll probably be getting about quadruple the salary he's receiving right now. I don't really think i can do anything to change the situation, but my mom is asking me whether i really mind moving or don't really mind at all. I don't really care about transferring, but it IS my junior year of highschool and it's almost the end of the year. My parents told me that if we did transfer me to another school, it'd be just in time for senior year, aka i'd be able to finish junior year. Should i try my best to talk my parents out of this or should i just follow along with their plans? Would me transferring affect my chances of getting into college because my grades system is messed up? hellppp

I don’t think that colleges will hold that against you. Plus, you’d be starting at the beginning of the year anyway, so you should be fine. I’d recommend just complying with their plans. They’re both probably excited to take advantage of the opportunity.

even if the colleges that i’m talking about our ivy league?? and what should i do with the teacher recommendations? by the time the format for the recommendations come out i’ll be in another state.

Colleges understand that people move. That’s not something that they’re going to hold against you.

I think that you should identify which teachers you’d like to receive recommendations from by about May. Once you’ve done this, let the teachers know that you’re going to be moving, and get their email addresses. You can then just send them the format through email or mail (by using your old school’s address) and get your recommendations that way.

Just email your teachers and get them to turn in recommendations.

If push comes to shove, you can always get senior year recommendations.

@Wartsandall okay it’s reassuring that colleges don’t care that much when students transfer schools. But I forgot to mention that my biggest concern was that if i did transfer to another highschool, they wouldn’t accept my grades and classes from my old school and i would have to take certain courses over again, and that can’t be too good for my college transcript, can it?

@augirl i was kind of hoping to apply early decision to plme, so idt senior year recommendations would work.

As long as your current high school is accredited, they should accept your grades.

Do you know which school you’d be going to though? If so, you might want to email one of the counselors there to see if you’d need to take any additional classes to graduate. You shouldn’t have to take too many extra, but some high schools do have various graduation requirements. Being able to identify which ones you need ahead of time will allow you to possibly take those courses over the summer (if necessary) and plan out your senior year.
