Transferring

I'm a student at Columbia University, and I'm thinking about transferring to Reed. My major complaint here is the lack of community; it's extremely hard to make friends because there's no campus life. The school discourages student organizations, which makes it difficult to meet people. I was just wondering if this was different at Reed. My other concern is the drug use. I know it exists, but how prevalent is it?

I am a parent whose daughter is a senior at Reed- while I realize that drug/alcohol use goes on at essentially all colleges- I do not feel there is a significant problem at Reed. However- responsiblity for appropriate behavior is left up to the individual more than at other schools.
I have heard of freshmen having wine with their dinner in commons- and as long as they are not causing havoc- I don't have a problem with that.
She did live in subfree housing for three years- but after the first year- it was more a choice of being able to have more choice of living spaces- although most of the dorms are pretty nice.
