Hi, I'm a senior in high school that just committed to the University of Mary Washington in VA. But I've always been fascinated by UNC - Chapel Hill. Everything about it attracted me: the excellent academics, the awesome basketball team, the southern charm, the fact that my heroine went there etc... When college applying time came I didn't even bother applying. I just thought that my chances were very slim to none. I love Mary Washington, it's a great liberal arts school with has excellent academics and a beautiful campus. But I can't really see myself going there for the next four years. My last two years of school weren't as great as they could have been. I didn't apply to any reach schools. I didn't even apply to UVA and everyone applies to UVA at my high school. I think I'm just really afraid of rejection. Anyway, I've been thinking. I could transfer but I really don't know how I feel about the whole transferring thing. I feel as if I wouldn't get the full college experience, I would never be a freshman at UNC-CH. Am I going to miss out on anything? And wouldn't it be very difficult? Do any transfers have any advice for me? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I transferred in after my freshman year, and believe me you won’t miss too much of anything. Carolina is great with transfer students, and goes to great lengths to ensure that they don’t feel “lost” or “left out”. If you were a freshman guy, I would probably say that you would be missing your best chance to go to some of the craziest frat parties, but since you are a girl, you should be good to go regardless of your class standing!

I totally disagree with Cuse, but really it just depends on the person. You will never have the same experiences that freshmen did as a transfer, it’s harder as a transfer to make friends especially when almost everyone in your class already has a close group of friends they hang out with. That being said, I love it here and would not go back and change a thing, UNC is the right place for me. Just don’t go in thinking transferring is a reset button you can push and you start college from the beginning.

Just curious jwlstn, are you also a transfer student?
