Transfer

I am a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill with less than average grades. I am looking to transfer to the College of Charleston. Is this a good decision?

UNC is a great school..Honestly i've never heard of Charleston...I'd stick with UNC and just work harder. If you were able to get into UNC Chapel Hill that means your capable, just push yourself to the limit because if you transfer out you'll regret this not now, not tomorrow, but in a few years down the road.

so i'm a freshman at c of c, and i'd honestly reconsider. i'm kind of really hating it here and i'm looking into transferring. but that's because the school isn't me more than anything. but here's some stuff i guess you should know:
-for a school with no real great reputation, the classes are still kind of challenging.
-theres not really much to do unless you're planning on getting involved in a lot of clubs or sports. personally i like to party, and i've done it lots, but it'd be nice if there was something more than that. charleston isn't a very big town and it gets old really quick.
-you're going to get mainly two types of people here - the really fratty "all i want to do is get drunk every night of the week" kind of person. same goes with girls. so i guess frat/sorority. or the big hippie pothead, which is aight.
-also the frats and sororities arent as big as they are at most southern schools, but id say more often then not the frats consist of a bunch of really lame *******s who just have little-man syndrome.
-the campus is really nice looking, so if you're looking for aesthetics thats ok.
-there are a lot of pretentious people, you'll notice that when you see the coach store, the gucci store, the two rolex stores, and just a lot of people care more about their appearance then being nice.
-the parties are really fun, and if you wont get sick of them that's good. cofc kids are really heavy drinkers.
-im pretty sure the cafeteria puts laxatives in the food
-a lot of the dorms (suites, mainly) are sort of antisocial. i'd say go college lodge if you're thinking of living in a dorm.
-and before i came here, i always asked "well what is there to do in charleston?" and people always said theirs lot of good restaurants. and you cant really spend all your time eating but some of them are really amazing

and if you couldn't care less about any of that, take this into consideration, gilroy's pizza pub on king street. chicken ranch pizza. don't let the looks of the place turn you off.

i guess if you have any other questions, ask. thats kind of all i feel like saying.

Thanks Man, I am kind of in the same situation up here as you are down there. I really do not like it and I am looking for a smaller school that will have a more social atmosphere than Carolina. I have talked to one of my friends that goes to the college and he says he is having a pretty good time there. Other reasons why I'm attracted to the college are the city and "the kicker," my girlfriend goes there. I know this isn't always a good thing to do but my grades are not doing very well up here and I would like to start over at a college and try to get a good GPA going for law school. My girlfriend is in a sorority down there and she is having the time of her life. That is exactly what I seek in college, and UNC isn't giving it to me. I am not that big of a partier anyway but if I do transfer there I think I will probably pledge, since it is a pretty good way of meeting people, and my gf says she doesn't want us spending 100% of the time together. As far as housing goes, I will probably stay in one of the cheaper residence halls since I am from out of state and it's a little more expensive than UNC. Do you think it's possible for me to go down there and have a good time while also making good grades? Also, what do you think my chances of being accepted to Charleston are? Thanks for taking time to respond man.

i can see wanting to transfer, but i wouldnt base it on the city. honestly though, that might just be me. maybe it's because i'm more used to new york city and philadelphia, but so this seems like a small town to me rather than a city, and it got old quick. but as far as having fun and getting good grades, it's very possible. ive almost always managed to find something to do on thursdays fridays and saturdays and my grades are all fine. if you pledge, you'll probably just have to buckle down and get all of your work done during the day because i know a lot of people pledging that have a lot of stuff going on. and as far as housing goes, college lodge is cheaper than the other dorms, and in my opinion, it's nicer. it's a lot more social and a lot more lenient then the rest. at all costs, i'd say avoid craig if you can. it's the all male dorm, they promised a lot of renovations but everything is sort of in disrepair, and outside of the suites not that much socializing goes on. it basically sucks all around. and i'm sure you could get in. i'm from out of state and a whole lot of dummies from out of state got in.

thanks man
