I have a question BingAmbassador For example, if 4000th transfer applicant has such a great specs. 4.0 GPA and 2200 SAT + ECs. But since Binghamton gives admissions based on rolling basis, 4000th applicant can’t get in? If yes, people better apply early as possible.

I don’t think she was saying 4000 was the cap. But applying ASAP is most certainly advisable in any situation.

capwoo: An advisor from Binghamton told me that applying really early doesn’t affect your chances of getting in. I’m just hoping what he said is true…

Sorry guys…I meant that 4000 transfers applied and approximately 700-800 get in. Since Binghamton is a rolling admissions, the earlier you apply the earlier you should technically receive a decision. That is not to say that some applications that are sent in early will not get seen as early as they should. My sister applied this year and she applied for a freshman spot in early November and she didn’t hear until the first week of April like everyone else. I know everyone is becoming impatient but just give it a little more time…

Do you have any news at all on what volume of applications Binghamton still has left to go through, and by when the bulk of us should hear by? I know this is a long shot but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask.

hyperJulie,

Even if I did I probably wouldn’t be allowed to say. All I know is that we got about 28000-30,000 total apps this year.

holy crap… i was rejected a couple weeks ago. Today i got an email saying i should pay my deposit. I though it must of been a mistake, but apparently my decision was reversed. This totally threw me for a loop, 2 weeks ago i definitely would have come, now im going to really have to think about it. But it is definitely good news!

That’s crazy… congrats!

Oh no… waitlisted.

It’s just more waiting. I just wish I knew either way…

Hello BingAmbassador! I heard that a lot of finance majors at SOM changed their major to accounting due to a hardship at finance industry. As a result, SOM did not really accepted that much trasfers who applied as an accounting major. Is that true? Also, how many accounting tranfers did you accept for the 2009 Fall term?

I don’t know the numbers but the way transfer applications work is that they are taken until the spots are filled. If SOM had upperclassmen who did not leave to go on study abroad or transfer into another school, they may not have had spots available. SOM as well as Binghamton in general is really competitive. Please contact the admissions office with further questions like this as I do not have answers for you regarding numbers.

Does anyone know when we should get our housing assignments?

June 26th, according to the admissions timeline.

You will get your community assignment sometime in July and you will get your roommate/suitemate information in August.

really? Because I actually called admissions and they told me that transfers would know in a few weeks?

Generally they will start doing community assignments sometime in late June/early July and the roommate information in August. As far as I know all new students get their information around the same time but it may be possible that transfers know sooner. I can find out and let you know tomorrow.

I would love to know soon, but the timeline on the accepted students site says June 26th.

When do transfers register for classes? at orientation?

All incoming students will register for classes at the end of their 2nd day at orientation.
