Transfers to USC's SCA Fall 2011!

I sent in SGR a week and a half ago, so hopefully will hear sometime this week

I got the letter from SCA on Friday and sent it back. I got financial aid letters last Wednesday.

Hey guys, would any of you who have been accepted care to share a link to your visual samples? I plan on possibly reapplying next year and would love to see some of the accepted videos to give me an idea of what USC might look for. Thanks guys!

Took several unofficial tours of USC and SCA this past weekend. Very nervous and excited, but I have a couple of courses to take to make sure my schedule is nothing but film and culture next semester. I am having a lot of trouble, though, because LA community colleges charge an outrageous out-of-state fee. Does anyone know if USC will accept online college credits? And has anyone planned out their schedule of courses for next year yet?

@ Panther i spoke with SCA peeps and they told me to just wait until orientation to get academic advising. I believe they are right too because even if I plan it out myself it will prolly not be the smartest decision. They know better then us and also MOST of the classes you take elsewhere before USC for SCA Film never transfers to USC. I have found maybe 1 or 2 classes in the LA community college district that would actually transfer to USC SCA but anytime I said I was going to take those courses they said there would be no point.

clutchm3,

Hmm interesting.

I will wait, of course, until orientation to register, but I’d like to have an idea of what I WANT before I go there, lest I get pressured into courses I either A. Don’t really need. B. Wouldn’t really like… as has happened to poor souls at my previous universities. I also plan to know enough about professors, their course loads, what the courses actually teach (not what they claim to teach) and the juicy stuff they don’t tell you at orientation to make a REALLY informed decision.

I’m pretty sure LA community college credits will transfer cause the SCA Director of Admissions recommended that I take some courses there (via email). I would love to have every last required GE completed by fall (need 3 more courses), it’s just too expensive. :(

Also, I should add, I want to know what I can get away with before registering. ;)

I know for a 100% fact that there are 3 USC General education classes that we are ONLY aloud to take at USC so I am not sure what that director for SCA told you. I mean are you transferring with less then 48 units? Perhaps I’m missing something here. I have finished all the units needed for USC and can transfer those 48 articulation agreement units with me. Unless you didn’t follow the articulation agreement from USC you would need classes…

Perhaps there are 3 courses that I’m going to have to take regardless, but of the GEs that transfers are recommended to take, there are three whose requirements may not be met with the 68 units I have now. For instance, I hope to take a western lit. and research course this summer. Not any film courses or “USC only” courses, obviously. Just stuff I don’t want to have to take while I’m there, so that I can take electives. Aye yi yi.

Hello everyone, ended up not getting into USC. :confused: However, I’ll be going to Tisch at NYU for film so I’m still happy. Best of luck to everyone. Maybe I’ll see you in the industry some day. :)

Good luck we will see each other someday :slight_smile:

guys, how possible is it to graduate from college and to find a job soon (or to have a job offer from your internships) in the industry? are there any stats about that?

@moniso

I don’t have any stats, but I’m currently working and hear a lot of stuff. I think it depends on what kind of job you’re looking for, your skill set/work experience at the time of graduation and how hard you’re looking, so it’s highly subjective.

Hey, has anyone joined the SCA community yet?

@kmgphoto

Tisch seems like a great school. Have fun!

By SCA community what exactly do you mean? We all just got accepted but I know people who graduated from SCA and have awesome jobs editing/producing.

A lot of my internships also say it doesn’t really matter how you got your education but you must put your foot in the door. For me going to school and getting a degree is just something that I myself feel I MUST DO! I know that USC SCA does have a lot of job opportunities for current and graduating students. That is one of the reasons why people go to USC. The community is overwhelming!

clutchm3,

I’m talking about registering online to become a part of the SCA community/network (they have to verify that you’re a student first). Website is awesome. Bored at work so I’m doing some perusing there.

panther, ahh i see! Never knew about that place O_O I am sure once we are actually in they set us up. Have you decided which transfer day you are coming to?

clutch,

Yeah, July 1st. Trying to get around that fee is a hassle though (sent in a paper form with an accompanying letter… no check lol). Now I just have to brush up on mi espanol before July. :S

I bet you’ll do great panther… buena suerte en tu examen :)

panther, why are we brushing up on languages? >.> now I am lost haha!
