Looking to transfer into an in-state uni next spring after a mehhh first semester at Oklahoma State. I’m an education major, and will be attending a dallas county community college for the time being. Right now my twin sister (who is also an ed major) and I are looking into UT, A&M, and Baylor. (And Possibly Tech???) I really like the Multidisciplinary Studies program TTU has, and was admitted last year, but decided not to go.
I’ve heard that all of these schools have phenomenal Education programs, so I’m keeping an open mind!! My only thing is, all but UT are in college towns, and one of the main reasons (other than cost) I left OSU was because the rural setting.
If I go to UT, I wanna major in Youth and Community Studies with the Secondary English or Social Studies certification, and minor in Educational Psychology
A&M- Interdisciplinary Studies: Middle level English
Baylor: Secondary Education, also with an English, or Social Studies concentration (torn b/t the two)
Tech- Multidisciplinary Studies: Secondary English
Are there any Education majors who’ve had success transferring to either of these three universities?!! And if so, what was your experience like?
Your post is a bit confusing. You never stated the reason why you do not like OSU other than advising it is in a rural setting. Tech is the Texas version of OSU so I am not sure if it would be a great fit or not. If finances were a issue for a out of state school like OSU why would you have Baylor on the list since it is private university.Texas is a great university but not worth the price for a education degree IMHO. A&M might be a great pick but you did not include what your looking for in a school. UofH and Texas State may also be great fits. Need more information to offer any advice.
I stated that I left because of cost and setting. While Baylor is expensive, they offer a lot of scholarships. My cousin goes there and his tuition is free because he’s maintained good grades. His freshman year he only had to pay $16K a year, and he’s a junior now. My older brother goes to UH, and I didn’t like their campus. Another cousin and a lot of friends go to Tech, so I’m aware that Lubbock is pretty much Like Stillwater, but the only reason I would consider is because the program they offer in regards to Multidisciplinary Studies is exactly what I’m looking for. I went to San Marcos last April, and absolutely hated Texas State.
I’m looking for a school in a larger city setting (such as UT/TCU), although I am open to giving A&M a shot, that has a good Education program, and is worth the cost. As a black woman, I would like a more diverse school. The only Texas schools I’ve been to are UT, TCU, SMU, UTD, UNT, UH, Sam Houston, and Texas State. Out of those, the only ones I would even consider are TCU and UT simply because of the prestige and rigor, and also because of their affiliation with the Big 12.
Well there are a few things you need to consider. You will be considered a transfer student which will limit your scholarship chances. You never posted your stats so I have no idea if UT or A&M will be options for you. I am assuming you want to be teacher and if this is true and see zero reason to pay a premium for a degree in education. Your salary will be the same regardless were you get your degree from. If you were seeking a business, engineer or computer science science degree I would agree with you that prestige matters. It does not for a education degree. You just need to understand that transfer student opportunities for scholarships are limited and if cost is a consideration this limit your search. Even with free tuition, 16k a year is expensive. Sounds like you have some major decisions to make. Best of luck to you.
