I’m international and will be going to an elite boarding school in the coming fall. I’ve been in touch with several other international students attending the same school, but all of them seem to be from the upper-class/ very very rich families. My family, however, is not rich. I’m worried that I may not be able to have a good bond with them since our backgrounds are so different. Plus, local students at that school will probably be somewhat rich, too.
Should I be worried?
Most boarding schools have anywhere from 30-50% receiving partial or full financial aid so not all students will be wealthy. Since students live in the same dorms, eat the same food, etc. and live together 24/7, those help “equalize” students in many ways. During their boarding school years, my kids had friends across the socio-economic spectrum. I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
@doschicos Thank you!
We are not wealthy…DS knows many of his friends are from much more affluent backgrounds than he is…but that has not been an issue at all. They are just kids, going to school for better experiences and education. I think you’ll find that anywhere at BS.
My opinion and ds’s experiences mirror @buuzn03 and @doschicos .
