I'm a civil engineering major and I'm trying to figure out what sub-branch I should focus on in school. So far I narrowed my interests to structural engineering or transportation engineering. I obviously know a good amount about structural engineering, but I have not delved too much into transportation engineering. Can anybody give advice or resources where I could read about what transportation engineering entails?

My school seems to focus more on traffic engineering rather than transportation engineering. Or are the two fields synonymous? If I decided not to do structural engineering, I would like to get into aspects of transportaion engineering such as working with public transportation systems like rapid train systems and such. Also, I heard transportation engineers make more money than structural engineers. Not that money is my number one priority, but is that true? Any advice will help thanks!
