My daughter will be flyinging into the Raleigh Airport to attend the Honors Fellows Weekend March 8 & 9. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get to the Elon Campus - that is safe? Admissions suggests a cab?

I think a taxi is your only choice unless she knows someone else attending with a car who is willing to pick her up. It can be pricey too.

See if there is a facebook page of people attending. At least you should be able to share a cab, but more likely She will find a family or Fellow heading her way. Our family has enjoyed meeting new students more than once when passing by the airport on the way to Elon.

I think a cab is your best bet. My daughter frequently flies back and forth to school and has safely taken a cab to Elon numerous times. It isn’t cheap - probably going to cost about $90. Try calling ahead to secure a rate and to make sure your child has a cab waiting.

I checked the Elon website for you today but didn’t see anything. You can try looking to see if any students are available to offer a ride. The kids usually pay the driver (or split the amount if several are going) what they would pay for the shuttle during holidays, about $40 one way from or to RDU. Go to the Elon website. In the upper right, click on E-Net. Look across the list to Want Ads. Left side column has Rideshare. Since you do not have an account, you cannot post, but you can respond by email. If your daughter does attend Elon, she will find rides or take the shuttle. Good luck!!

Thank you all very much! I’m actually glad to hear that there are holiday shuttles offered to and from the airports. Although my D really loves Elon, this transportation issue is a total deal breaker for me. I’m pretty surprised that the University doesn’t provide any alternatives (that we can pay for) for the students coming in for the Fellows Weekend?

^^don’t let the transportation issue influence any decision; my daughter has never had a problem getting to or from any airport for any vacation or random weekend she wants to come home…

I think that if the school knew that there were students coming without parents, they could organize the shuttle honestly; the thing is, most students do come with a parent; there are parent programs during both the fellows weekend and both orientation weekends…so I imagine that is why Elon does not arrange for airport transportation…(which, if they did, would have to be from both Raleigh and Greensboro)

Rodney (or other current parents) - I see you mention that your daughter does not have trouble getting transportation to the airport… I know that Elon offers shuttles to the airports for school vacations (Thanksgiving, long breaks, etc.), but how does a student get to the airport for a random weekend?

HockeyMomMA, they get rides with friends. A lot of kids at Elon have cars, and will either give a ride as a favor or for $20 - $25.

But frankly, there aren’t a lot of kids looking for airport rides on random weekends, because most kids aren’t going campus on non-break weekends, unless it’s for a family event or something like that. It’s not a suitcase school at all.

Also agree that most kids coming for spring orientations or Fellows weekends are accompanied by a parent, mostly because it’s out of state travel and parents want to check out the school again. It’s not necessary for parents to go, but Elon provides a lot of informational activities for parents who do attend.
