I know that Boston has a great rail system. Also, it is probably impractical (not to mention not allowed) to have a car while a student at N.U. However, I own a Vespa. Although, I am in UT., I could probably get it to the ice (I mean East) coast. Would it be a good idea? Useful? Not worth the effort? Allowed on campus as a freshman?

Cars are not allowed on campus as a freshman, and you probably won’t need it anyways. NU sponsors zipcar if for some reason you need a car. Google it.

Parking and potential theft would be major concerns.

Coltron, FYI, a Vespa is not a car. It’s more like a high-powered scooter. I know about the zipcar. I would love to ride my bike around Boston, and scooter to the beach and around the city. Really, a Vespa needs no more space for parking than a bicycle. Does anyone know whether N.U. has a rule against freshman parking a scooter on campus? Thanks!

You will need to obey all of the state laws for these types of vehicles - registration, driver’s license, insurance, parking, etc. Check those out before you consider it further.

Oops, there’s not many vespas where I’m from

Don’t bother. It would be more of a hassle than it is worth to get it here and find a place for it. I don’t know where you would be allowed to keep it. Plus, you would have to worry about Boston traffic and the weather in the winter. You wouldn’t get much use out of it. The two big advantages to having a car are being able to take friends to places with you and carry large quantities of stuff, neither of which would be fulfilled by a Vespa very well.
