Travel from New York to Binghamton

So I'm planning on going from Brooklyn to Vestals/Binghamton just to get a sense of what things there are to do with a friend who is also going to BU. Are there any bus routes from Brooklyn or at least New York City to Vestals/BU. A direct route would be beautiful although a bus route with stops is fine. Also, if there are only direct routes to BU and not the city, whats the best place to get from there and back?
So should I go to Vestals or Binghamton the city? Vestals is what BU is in but there seems to be more in Binghamton (although from what I've heard, that isn't saying much).
For any current students are there any areas that stood out to you, are vital to any newcoming freshman to know about, or just areas you wish you knew about sooner?
Thanks!

Your best bet would to be to take a Grayhound to the city and take a cab/bus to campus.

I don’t know how they run during the summer but I usually took the CollegeExpress bus. It lets you off almost on campus, rather than the bus station which is a taxi-ride away. It was $50 round trip last time I took it.

Honestly, I don’t know what you’ll find there… plenty of people spend their entire experience barely going off campus, and if they do, it’s just to the movies or frozen yogurt something, or to a party downtown which you won’t really find when school’s not in session.

Also not that it matters, but it’s Vestal, not plural :)
