I just got an email from Stanford saying congrats, you received a travel grant. You still have to pay for your flight; they will reimburse you and there is a file with guidelines. It also looks like they have travel grants for those driving. So then with this I assume its not in the admissions packet. It also said it was based on CSS/Profile, FAFSA, and any other financial aid form received.

Edit: The email said it was based on FAFSA, CSS, and/or other information in your Stanford app

I also received an email for a travel grant. Sadly, I won’t be able to make it to the Admit Weekend. Does anyone know whether I can use this travel grant to visit at an earlier time? :)

I received a travel grant too, which is surprising because I only live about 2 hours away. It says that it was based off of financial information. I only sent in the FAFSA and not the CSS profile because I thought that for sure I would not qualify for need based tuition aid. However since I was given a travel grant does that mean that Stanford identifies me as having need and have the potential of getting need based aid? So basically Im asking if I should pay the money to send them the CSS profile.

Actually the travel grants aren’t only based on financial aid.
And I’m pretty sure you can only use travel grants for the Admit Weekend

If I’m correct. Stanford is only covering $200 of the total expenses? Hmm . . . Does anyone know what happens if one’s trip costs more than the $200 expenditure?

Stanford is reimbursing me $350…and if it costs more, than you pay for it. Maybe you can call and ask for more money if you need it?

Actually, I just called, and they said that travel grants may be used for alternate April visit dates.
So yaayyyyyy I can visit Stanford! :D

Also, Stanford is giving me a max of $500, but I’m pretty sure that’s just because I live in SC. It’s a REALLY long distance, so my plane tickets cost $475.

I thought they would cover 500…also, there’s an option for the school to pay for the ticket initially, if paying right now would be a “financial hardship.” I didn’t think I was going to be able to go to Admit Weekend, but now it looks like I can :)

Yaaay that great merrymelodys! Hope you have a great time. I live on the west coast, so hopefully if I can book a flight in time, the $350 will be plenty. And that’s such good news bout Stanford paying initially! I love generous schools that understand financial situations

Argh, no travel grant for me = no visit. :(

flyingdeloreans, if you really can’t swing a visit without a travel grant, go ahead and contact admissions to explain the situation. They might come around. :)

yay for all the people who got travel grants
i was so glad to have it last year, especially coming from the east coast!
travel grants are largely based on financial aid awards (and distance)
