Traveling from Wash DC to NC visiting colleges, what else should we see along the way

In July we will be driving south from DC to see U Richmond (Just to drive around and check it out), Duke (tour), Guilford (look around), Wake Forest (look around), Davidson (tour), Wofford (look around), and Furman (tour).

We may yet change our minds about which ones to tour/which ones to drive around.

While we're in DC, we may also go see Georgetown.

We've got plenty planned while we are in DC, but what else should we see while we are near all these schools?

Elon, if you want to look at another school. Other kinds of things to check out? It depends on your interests. The park along Reedy River in Downtown Greenville, SC is pretty impressive. Old Salem, immediately south of Downtown Winston-Salem is terrific, if you like historic settlements. The UNC Botanic garden and the UNC campus, generally, even if it’s not on the list.

Another thing: while at Wake, walk through the woods from campus to Reynolda Village and do some nice shopping.

If you decide to just walk around Davidson be sure to go to admissions and fill out card. They track interest.

Sage advice. Don’t limit it to Davidson, either.

I think we will be looking for indoor things to do because of the heat. The tours and walking around campus will probably be enough hot weather for me.

scmom12, What card would I ask for at the admissions office? I wouldn’t have thought of that! Thanks!

HappyBCDad, How long a walk would that walk to Reynolds Village be? I have put Elon on the list. I just looked at it again. I can’t remember why I hadn’t kept it on the list.

Its just an info card in admissions.

The walk to Reynolda Village is maybe 10 minutes. The trick is getting to the correct jump-off spot on the edge of campus. The trail is official, btw, and paved, but quite nice. I think you’ll like Elon, incidentally.

I would try to take a tour at all the schools you visit – you will get so much more out of it. If no tours are available, I would walk over to the admissions department and sign in so they know you visited the school. Most small and mid sized school track “demonstrated interest” and that can factor into an admissions decision. You can also pick up a campus map and an information packet while you are there.
