Travelling a hundred art colleges in one swoosh.

Hi.

No, I am not going to spin like a top or visit a hundred art colleges. :)

Nevertheless, I am planning a trip to visit the campuses of MICA, RISD, School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts U. in a relatively short amount of time. I think 4 days at the most and each day on my trip I intend to visit at least one school.

See, I live nowhere near these schools. I am from the South, let's just say. I spoke to a travel agent recently and she said that there is an amtrak train that runs to most of these places. I'm thinking I might fly up to one of these cities--probably Baltimore and then just do amtrak the rest of the way unless you guys who have gone visiting can suggest a better/more efficient (perhaps even more economical) manner of going about this.

I am starting college at a local college and it's a good school. While I'm not sure if they will let me off for 4 days, I am willing to try my luck. The reason why I am visiting all these schools is because I kind of picked this school as a temporary stop and I pretty much know that I will be transferring to some sort of an art school for the second semester.

I hope I am not rambling too much :p. Anyway, help me if you can and I will appreciate it ;). Thank you.

from providence to boston i would take the bus, its more flexible and cheaper usually. Also as long as you are in boston looking at SMFA you should look at Massart...i know you have alot on your plate already but its literally right next door to smfa (they even share a dorm).

If you were stopping in NYC to see SVA, Pratt, Parsons, etc., I'd say take the train. But if not then from Baltimore to Providence fly Southwest. It is about $39 one way. From Providence to Boston you can do either the bus or Amtrak. For the bus check out Greyhound, Peter Pan, and Bonanza.

Thanks a lot, everyone.

Actually, I'd love to stop in NY, but I am afraid a) I might get lost and b) it would increase how many days I would need to take off from school.

Otherwise, I told myself if I am going to go see all the art schools, I will def. visit NY, too. Too bad. :T

Great suggestions, though! Anyone else? :)

as far as I know, you can't enter risd 2nd semester. You can, however, begin mica in the spring. smfa will probably let you do whatever you want.

Yeah. I'm pretty aware of the 2nd semester policies of most these schools. If I do like RISD and RISD is supposedly a unique place in some ways, I will make an exception and remain at my current institution long enough to qualify to transfer. Otherwise, I am off to either an art school or one of those univ./colleges with serious art depts. This is all to say that I still have the stamina to transfer after this first semester (well, technically I would be transferring mid-way, which makes it even more difficult if you're me).

Anyhoo, anyone else? I'd appreciate all your various opinions on how I should go about this trip. Thanks.

College-ish: speak to a number of students especially students who are in the major that you are considering. I have found students, for the most part, to be very honest and to point out stuff that I never would have considered. Don't just ask one or two students because you might get a warped result.

Thanks, taxguy. Will def. take your advice into use.
