im goin with my dad to the umkc interview...

i'm going w/ my dad too for my drexel interview

I went with a parent to my interviews for BS/MD programs. I would have gone alone if I could, I didn't have my license at the time. Also, it's nice to have someone worry about the driving while you worry about your interviews.

When you are applying to medical school the regular route, you of course go by yourself.

this is just me, but i think it looks cool if you go by yourself. it looks mature IMO and if you somehow slip it to the interviewer you might get props.

I went with my dad to my interview last year.
I had to fly and it was nice not having to worry about getting to and from the airport, hotel, and interview.
And it was nice having a familiar face there while I was freaking out!
Almost all of the other kids that were interviewed the same day brought both of their parents. Some even brought siblings!

I went with my dad to all my interviews. I disagree that it looks more "mature," I think it's a matter of personal preference. I was happy that I had someone there who knew me and could keep me somewhat grounded on the interview days.

No, I think they actually like to have parents there for BS/MD interviews. They set up elaborate programs to present the school/program to the parents.

haha i would totally give preference to a kid that traveled alone. thats just me though, as ive said. and yea youre right they probably want parents there.

YOU GUYS BROUGHT YOUR PARENTS TO THE ACTUAL INTERVIEWS?!

Did I read that correctly? Or are we simply talking about traveling with the parents?

^I think it's obvious everyone is talking about traveling with your parents (look at the thread title). No parents actually go to the interviews...let's be real here. Also, I would like to emphasize that we are just talking about BS/MD programs...not regular admissions.

That's what I thought too until people started talking about interview day programing for the parents and such.

I think I would burst out laughing if I saw someone walk in with their parents.

At my Gw interview, they want me to bring parents because they're going to have a luncheon. there's nothing wrong with a parent traveling with you especially if you're a minor (it's probably better in case something happens), but they should not be within 100 feet of you during the interview itself cuz that's weird

BS/MD Programs typically offer a presentation/tour for the parents.

Babe, I don't know why that would throw you. They have elaborate programs just for parents at BS/MD interviews. I personally preferred not traveling with the 'rents when I went through that cycle, but EVERYONE brought them. Now, for "regular" admissions...that would just be...well, weird.

OK, NCG, I get what you're saying now. Yes, for BS/MD program interviews, parents are brought to the ACTUAL interviews. However, they of course don't go to the "ACTUAL" interviews (i.e. one on one sessions or group interviews...whatever). They have their own programming sessions. Like I said, at all the interviews I went to during that cycle...EVERYONE brought their parents and each school had a special session for the parents.

lol norcalguy the thread title is travelling alone not interviewing alone

Traveling with a parent makes sense. I just don't understand why the heck you would bring a parent to interview day. Seems a bit hypocritical for all of these BS/MD programs to be seeking the brightest and most mature, only to set up info sessions aimed at convincing Mommy and Daddy.

You might be right but this is how it is done.

what if my parents are applying to the program as well? do i still bring them?
