Trinity Col (CT) vs Dickinson vs Elon vs Allegheny

My D2 graduated last May from Trin and landed a great job before she graduated due to all the contacts from the career office; its in NYC, full benefits +, walk to work in Soho.
I visited Hartford quite often and really enjoyed it; fantastic restaurants, both in downtown Hartford and West Hartford, which is a very "happening " shopping/dining area. She majored in Art History and Italian with a minor in French and had truly fantastic professors who took a great interest in her academics. They gave her a grant to travel to CA to see the Getty Museum & train with a curator. She met many lifelong friends who are like sisters. Her trip to Trinity campus in Rome was life changing; I traveled there to visit and was envious of the room in the convent with the lemon trees in the courtyard! (you can opt to stay in the nearby hotel!) The campus in CT is beautiful, especially the huge chapel and grounds and getting even better now that they tore down Crescent where she lived sophomore year (we called it the bowels!)
We had looked at Elon, which had an impeccable campus but was too remote from a city for her, plus she fell in love with Trin and it became her top choice. They have record applications this year for a lot of good reasons! They have increased their security if that is a worry. She never had a problem, and took the bus to West Hartford to work every week. We paid full tuition as well. Not sure about Allegheny, did not know anyone who went there. Kids seem to really like Dickinson:) Good luck and give Trin a look-see!!!
ps the graduation at Trin is incredible, out underneath the elms, followed by “tent city” where everyone rents a tent or portion of one, all together for one last big luncheon …sure beats BC where D1 went, 6 hour ceremony then everyone leaves and packs up!

^ Thanks for the info about Trinity. It’s good to hear that your D had a good experience finding a great job. I think parents care more about career opportunities and job placement than most students do.

We plan to visit soon, so will get a first-hand look at the Trinity campus and area around it. Can you say anything about what kind of students would fit or not fit at Trinity?

Sacchi, I may have told you this on another thread, but D2 and I were touring Dickinson last year (D1 just graduated from Dickinson), and the senior who took us on the tour was a psych major. He had landed a post-graduation job with the Nielsen company (the ones who figure out what we watch on TV).

I feel like I should be singing Elon’s praises, but I know Sacchi has been on the Elon thread and knows how I feel about the school (D is a very happy psych major there).

But for others who may be reading:
Elon’s price tag is $40,046.
Elon is top-ranked in the country for “engaged learning.” They have small class sizes, and professors who really know their students. They emphasize undergraduate teaching and learning.
The campus is gorgeous and the climate is moderate.
Princeton Review ranks Elon as the “best run college” in the country (it’s really true - everything they do is user-friendly, student-oriented, well thought out and well-organized).
Their extensive study abroad program is enhanced by their 4-1-4 calendar. They run about thirty 3-week study abroad programs during January term, from China to the Caribbean to Europe to India to South Africa to Australia to Peru. Many kids go abroad more than once - they do a winter term abroad one year and a semester abroad another year. For others, they can go abroad for winter term without missing an entire semester.
And Leo Lambert is my favorite college president ever.

^^love Leo…and to add; that winter term, if you stay on campus, is included in tuition, room and board…

Sacchi knows our love for Elon…if there are specific questions, she will ask…

My Son is a psychology major at Elon and loves the school. I could not be more impressed with his opportunities, advisers and internships.

I think they are all great choices. It’s a personal situation which would be preferred. i think what ever your student picks will be just fine.

Update: She decided on Dickinson.

She said it was really hard to fill out the negative response cards for the other schools.

Distance from home was definitely a big factor in her decision. She also had a really good experience at the Dickinson accepted students day visit.

Good choice! She will be very happy there. Thanks for reporting back.

If she’s happy, we’re happy. Congratulations to her!

Concur! Congratulations all around.

Congratulations!

Congrats sacchi…that was always the one I thought was best based on your posts!
