Hi! So i'm gonna be living in a triple mini suite in Unit 1 this fall and I was wondering if anyone has had experience with debunking the one top bed in the room? so far, the standard layout of unit triple mini-suites are two bottom beds and one bunked top bed.
It's a little hard to be assertive and open the bed-topic with my roommates... and i think all three of us want a bottom bed. Has anyone ever debunked/ seen a triple minisuite with three bottom beds or know if it's possible? Please help!!

It’ll be a mess… Although a ms-triple is pretty big, I don’t think you can just have 3 normal beds… The layout will be awkward…

To be honest, it’s first come first serve. I tried bringing that up last year, but it got awkward and no one replied LOL! I suggest you check in early and secure yourself a bottom bunk… You just need to get their before the 3rd person and you’ll get a bottom bunk.

Thanks so much for your response Calicious. I appreciate it! Did you and your roommates get into any awkward/ unhappy moments because somebody may not have gotten the bed they wanted that day? I’m a little nervous about talking to my roommates right after if I happen to be able to come and claim a bottom bed. haha

Well I ended up getting there like at 1 so everyone was already settled in… Which meant I got the top bunk above the bottom bunk (I lived in a normal triple)… the worst spot haha. I was a bit worried at first, but after awhile, I didn’t really care. I really think it depends on your roommates and since I got the worst spot, I guess I was the only person entitled to be unhappy (haha). Either way, I was content as long as my roommates weren’t jerks so top or bottom bunks didn’t bother me.

So basically… just go in and claim your spot. Start unpacking, it WON’T be awkward… It’s first come first serve so they can’t blame you b/c if they wanted to talk about it, they would have talked about it earlier. That being said, if you do end up getting a top bunk, don’t feel bad either.

Anyways, I’ll be dorming again and I’m very determined to not arrive last this time around haha. I really want a bottom bunk or a lofted side this year. I’ll be at Berkeley this time before move-in so this should work out.

I personally think the top bunk on top of the desk (the loft bed) is the best. The bottom bunk isn’t always the best because it’s the first place people go to sit on or lay on when they enter the room. The loft bed is protected and you don’t have to worry about disturbing anyone under you.

@demoz

I was thinking the same… I’m not sure which I want if I get there first lol! The only con for the lofted bed would be that you need to walk up a ladder to get to your bed vs a bottom bunk where you can get out easily in the morning. Sigh all these choices haha!

Has anyone tried a system where roommates switch beds regularly?

^I don’t think anyone has tried this before. It is a very inconvenient to keep changing your bedding and switching pillows/blanket. Trust me, once the first week of school is over, you’ll not care where your bed is! Although it’s better to have a lofted bed or a bottom bunk, it is the end of the world if you end up with the top bunk.

Sucks for the Units :p. In CKC the rooms are large enough to fit all beds without any bunks.

^The walk from there to campus still haunts me though :(! Lol!

I know people who got pretty hostile over it…they decided to switch beds for second semester haha

So, IT IS the end of the world if you get top bunk…I’d like to know what really happens up there at the top

I actually know some people that preferred the top bunks. I got pretty lucky with my bed situation. I was the last one to move in and both of my roommates left me the bottom bunk because neither of them wanted it (I was very happy with this arrangement). They thought that all of our guests would end up sitting on the bottom bunk when they came over to our room, and they were right.

nah not the end of the world - I got stuck with the one above the desks, and tried the bottom bunk the night before we had to move out since I was the only one left in the room haha. I did like the bottom better, but I liked how the top was more “private”. It was convenient since the desk light didn’t affect me as much as the bottom bunk. I knocked my head on the ceiling at least three times a week though, and climbing down and up was a pain.
