Hi! So I'm considering requesting a triple in an attempt to save a little money (I'm from Southern California so I'll have extra expenses as far as flying and purchasing winter clothes go). Has anyone had an experience with a triple dorm room as a freshman? Should I try and avoid it? Any help is appreciated:)))

We toured Rochester recently and our tour guide mentioned the triples and made a point to say these rooms were originally built to house three students–not like other schools who may try to fit three students in a room originally built for two!

Maybe if you search the board, it will come up. I know the rooms are large. Rooms are already large so …

From what I’ve heard it’s not really about the physical space, but more about the people you are rooming with. Apparently there is usually two that get along and the third one is left out.

D had a triple freshman year. It was a big room. One way to look at it is that you have to get along with 1 out of 2 people, instead of 1 out of 1. In D’s case, one girl went out of her way to ignore the other 2, who got along fine. She transferred to the Sue B for spring semester, wanting a more “social” (party) dorm. Then again, she was out all night then got upset if anyone opened the shads at 4 PM when SHE was ready to sleep. D and other girl were happy when she moved!!

Thank you all very much! Yeah I think it would just being able to get along with at least one, hopefully both:)))

D was in triple room her freshman year. Yes the rooms in the quad dorms that are triples are designed for 3 and so there was adequate room for everyone’s stuff. There was also more stuff and so more dust accumulated. In d’s case she didn’t have anything in common with either girl with the exception that they were all female. One girl was especially difficult to get along with as extremely self-centered and the other girl was very silent. She never spoke to either of them again after freshman year for the most part. She did make great friends on her floor though as well as in her activities and classes in her major.

D dormed with another girl on the floor other 3 years but stayed friends with 1 of the 2 from the triple. Didn’t see the other girl again (traveled different circles, I guess) but she did graduate.
