Triples and Housing for Freshman

Alright, now that the "will-I-get-in" frenzy is over, I have a question about my new obsession: housing. What's the deal with triples--both low cost and well, not low cost? Are they just rooms for three people, or do they break down into a room per person? And does it vary (as I'd imagine it does) per dorm?

Thanks so much if anyone has an answer for me!

Have a look at the housing website. It will give you lots of information on the different dorms and types of accomodation, including costs.

<a href="http://www.nyu.edu/housing/%5B/url%5D">http://www.nyu.edu/housing/</a></p>

A triple is a room which houses three students. They, just like every other type of room at NYU, vary in size and layout. Most that I've seen are very cramped. Basically, think of a double room meant for two but with an extra person in it. Personally, I don't think the cost savings is worth the aggravation.

Thanks!! I'm kind of wondering about the Triple Suite I read about in Hayden (or at least I think that's what it said--this should be more obvious, shouldn't it?) The website indicated that there is a certain kind of room there where it's three bedrooms for three kids--is that just wishful thinking? It also seemed like there was a similar option in Third Ave. North. Thanks again.

As a freshman, the chance of you getting a single room is zero. I've never heard of or seen a three single room suite so I can't help you there, but even if there is such a thing, you won't be getting it as a freshman. Think more junior or more likely, senior year.

Actually, in 3rd North, I know someone who applied for low cost housing and ended up in a suite with the 3 bedrooms- one is a single and the other 2 bedrooms have 2 people each, making the total 5 students. However, I don't know if you can apply for such a room- and there are no freshman dorms with 3 rooms and only 3 kids..

In terms of triples in Hayden, my friend lives in a situation where there are 2 bedrooms, and 3 people in her room- i don't know if there are 2 or 3 in the other room.

can we specify if we want a double over a triple/triple suite or vice versa?
