I’m currently taking AP Biology but the teacher doesn’t teach and the format of the exams we take are not closely aligned to the AP exam whatsoever. My teacher specifically said she introduced her own questions. It is near quarter 1, and I have been averaging a D in all the exams which is something abnormal to me. I have studied the collegeboard website and I know that I understand all the concepts under the collegeboard requirement plus albert.ios which I do significantly better on than compared to the questions my teacher gives me. I acknowledge that one reason I want to drop is because it will severely hurt my GPA, but I also have lost interest in the subject; I don’t know if that’s because the class is structured horribly or maybe AP Biology isn’t for me. Should I drop and what cons come with that? What positives? This is my first class I have ever dropped.
Better to drop than get a D. I am not sure how a drop is reflected on your school’s transcripts though. What is your intended major? Would you still self-study and take the AP exam? Whether it hurts or not may depend on the rest of your profile. If you’ve successfully taken other AP courses and the remainder of your course load now would still be rigorous then I don’t think it should be detrimental. A D would be detrimental IMO. A B would be ok though. It sucks how much a bad teacher can turn an interested curious kid off a whole subject area. Same thing is happening to my D in IB Art. Hopefully your interest will be rekindled later by an amazing prof.
Thank you.
