Hello everyone I’m Tyler and this is my first post here, and I’m excited to get to know everyone! The reason im making this post is over some frustration with studying and not having very much luck in exams. I have trouble concentrating when it comes to studying, but I am truly applying myself this semester. My main problem is with math, it is not a strong subject for me and im struggling with some entry level math classes. Other subjects I’m doing ok in but I can still study 6+ hours and get a 60-80% when my other friends who don’t study get A’s. I’m not complaining but I would like to know whether there is something im fundamentally doing wrong in my studying or even in my mindset that is holding me back. I’m currently studying for my math exam that is Friday that will make or break me, so if anyone thinks they could be of any help let me know so I can implement new ways to studying or mindset. Thank you for your time, Tyler
Are you in high school or college?
Sorry about that im in college currently pursuing a business degree
@collegegrind I’m a math major - for those classes, oftentimes the best way to study is to just solve lots of practice problems (as tedious as that may sound).
If you feel like you are not fundamentally understanding a concept, start with the basics. Make sure you understand all of the definitions, etc. so that you can begin to understand the main theorems or topics. Perhaps try proving the theorem on your own. If the topic is somewhat abstract, perhaps try drawing pictures or visual aids to help you understand intuitively what’s going on (this helps quite a bit in graph theory). If you can understand it to the point that you can comfortably explain it to someone else, then you probably understand it.
If your class gives practice exams, take them under timed conditions. Make sure to go over questions you missed or didn’t have time to do. Good luck.
Thank you very much, that defiantly helps a lot! I will start with the basics like you said and I think that will help with graphing a lot.
