I am thinking of taking a developmental math class this semester.. well because I haven't really brushed up on math in 4 years and the chances of me getting placed into college algebra are very slim. Will it look bad for me to be in a developmental math class when I apply to business school.... or law school ( I know this isn't the law school forum). Or should I just study from the book for the developmental class and try to get placed into college algebra for the winter session? I know I was good at math 4 years... but the fact of the matter is I haven't touched a math book since high school. I just don't want it to look bad that I had to take a developmental class... thanks!

"Or should I just study from the book for the developmental class and try to get placed into college algebra for the winter session?"

Yes. Better if you can make it calculus.

rly.. hmm well ok my uni doesn't offer a winter session but the cc in my town does, so I was thinking of trying to get placed into Stats for the winter session. It wouldn't matter if I took stats at a cc right.. since its a lower level course anyways? Plus I think aiming for stats would be easier than aiming for calc.. and stats is required. Thanks for any input!

It would be better to take the course at a 4-year university (with a grade of C or better) in your local area. If you do the community college route, some grad schools won't even accept a B or below. Sometimes the CC course credit won't count at all.

well if I take it during the winter I'm gonna try to get an A... not sure abt the credit not counting, bc its a lower level class and lots of students transfer to 4 yr from 2 yr :/ I have no choice either way... I can take the developmental class this semester or try to get placed into stats or college alg in the winter. I can't wait till next semester cuz then I'll be rly behind.

Are you still planning on taking Calculus? As long as you are planning on taking Calc 1 at some point, it doesn't matter at all if you take dev math or any other math class at a CC or anywhere else for that matter. B-school won't will only care that you took CALC 1, they won't care about the details of where and when. They are much more interested in your work history.

yeah true.. well its too late to register for dev math, so I'll just try to take college algebra this winter.
