today i went on gibson to try to register for some classes, but it said my registration was on hold. it also says that i don't have a registration time ticket for 2011 fall, even though i have confirmed my orientation dates. does anyone know what this means? can others register for classes yet?

Unless you are in the Honors Program, I don’t think you can register until Orientation. Am I wrong on this, anyone?

Unless you are in the Honors Program, I don’t think you can register until Orientation. Am I wrong on this, anyone?

that is what they told me.

I think that is correct. We went to Honors Weekend on March 21-22 and our registration ticket “opened” on March 21 even though we had not committed. I understood from the Honors Presentation that weekend that one of the advantages of the Honors Program was the early registration and everyone else would register at orientation. I think you could probably still plan your schedule from the class schedule on Gibson if you wanted piglet, but you won’t be able to officially register for the class until orientation unless you are in honors and attending Honors Weekend. I guess one question might be whether those that were invited to honors but cannot attend Honors Weekend will be able to register early.

if you haven’t registered for orientation, you may want to go ahead and set a date. I believe that it will be first come first serve when picking classes. The teachers have not been assigned to most classes yet. before you can register, you must enroll.

kreativekat - Yes, if you are in Honors Program but couldn’t attend your admissions counselor (or someone) can give you the information needed to go ahead and register.

You are also correct that you can use the class scheduler to at least get everything the way you want it, and take a printout of that to Orientation. If one cannot go to Orientation then I assume they will give you the information needed to start registering sometime around there, maybe when the Orientation sessions are over. I am not sure how they handle students that cannot attend anything. The advising center would be a good resource here as well.

What if I’ll be out of the country during the orientations? Then how and when do I register for classes?

Yeah, that’s one you will need to call the advising center about. I know they have a way of handling that, but I am not sure what it is.

I guess I’ll ask about that when I go to Destination Tulane. Will they let me register then? April 19th?

Probably not, but hey you can ask. Take some time on that day to go to the advising center. I think it is in the Richardson Building (Not the same as Richardson Memorial, which is the architecture school. Confusing, I know. Richardson must have been a heavy hitter to get two buildings!). They can definitely answer your questions about this. Not sure if you need an appointment, so you should e-mail them and set one up to be sure.

thanks all for the clarification! the tulane website isn’t the most direct, or maybe i just passed this over.

It can be a bit obscure sometimes, lol.
