I just had my friend read my SFS essay, and she said it was "deathly boring" The bad thing is, I agree with her. How did you SFS applicants approach your essays and make them interesting? I think with a serious question such as a global issue, making an essay exciting and fun to read is really hard. Any advice?

Yeah. . .I'm having this problem too. I'm glad G-town's app isn't due january 1st.

Hmm well I struggled with it a bit too, but I ended up liking it in the end. To make it interesting, I made the opening paragraph relate to me, if that makes sense. I wrote about the US presidential elections and my reaction, and then tied that into the rest of the essay. Does this make sense? I guess I would just advise you to somehow draw the essay back to you, instead of making it purely an academic paper.

You can definitely make it interesting...maybe you haven't found the right issue to discuss. If it is something you are passionate and knowledgable about, you will be able to write a good essay loaded with feeling and insight. IMO, I think that's what they are looking for.

I wrote about the death of internationalism and the breakdown of the UN, and I got in. So it doesn't have to be a specific or noteworthy conflict.
