SFS global issue - personal?

This global issue essay is driving me crazy. I wish I could just write it like it is a research paper, but I get the impression from a previous post that it is supposed to be half way between personal and analytical. Has anyone been accepted with a straightforward, impersonal essay?

I applied EA to SFS and was accepted, my essay was about the political situation in an African country i visited this summer - it was pretty personal though... good luck!

I also applied EA to SFS and got in. I wrote about economic policy in Central America and, except for a couple of slightly personal sentences about my vounteering last summer, the was very analytical. Hope that helps!

Where did you volunteer?

I volunteered in Honduras, you?

In Botswana, building houses. How long where you in Honduras for?

I was in Honduras for six weeks. We built a potable water system and taught English. Thats really cool about Botswana... I really want to go to Africa. I'm sure that it was incredible.

I am writing my SFS essay right now, ahhhhh, but I was wondering...I'm going to make it analytical, etc. like you guys said, but there shouldn't be any citations right? I mean, should I just talk about the issue in vague terms, without real numbers?? It's not like I already know anything about my topic...I read it in the newspaper, etc.
