you know what? reading this, i think st. johns is in need of some help! I think everyone should apply there! With everyone's above-average stats on this site, their stats will go up and the true greatness of st johns will shine! MOO HAHAHA it is up to US! lol

I thought this thread was originally made for people to say what their perfect school is, without taking into consideration the prestige or reputation of said school. It seems like everyone - or almost everyone - that has posted thus far has only thought about a top-notch, prestigious school. Even the original poster said Brown, which is an Ivy League, was his perfect school.

I think Haverford is the perfect school for me. It's a great school but not an Ivy. Nevertheless, if I could attend a college without worrying about the reputation or prominence of the school, I'd definitely attend Haverford. Note: Haverford is not the same as Harvard.

Cornell.

the academics, location and rowing and size- it is PERFECT for me. :)

"My D's dream school is Yale which I think is due to too much Gilmore Girls."

Funny, I considered Yale because of Gilmore Girls...

Northwestern pour moi :)

I visited the university and stayed around the area for 2 days. Everything was just great!

i didn't fully realize it until i got in, but UCHICAGO!
it's amazing.

Every single school listed aside from St. John's is far from lacking in prestige

I think my choice of BU is up there as well.

Michigan. It has a great international community, with GSI's from all around the world. The hospital is just 10 minutes away (not that... I like it there...;)), Football, a very proud student body, and really just ability to major in anything you want. Hill Auditorium is just... orgasmic when you play in there (I've only had the honor once in my life, and that is one of the reasons I chose Michigan)

secret dream school would be brown. Because i could take all my classes pass/fail haha.

but a more serious school would be University of Texas Dallas

going to umich instead.

Pomona is my dream school! Everything about it is perfect.

There are other awesome schools on my list though...

Pomona = home.

For several years I was all about Notre Dame. I liked the Catholic social consciousness thing they've got going on, I visited the campus and thought it was nice, and when I found out about their 'great books' program (Liberal Studies) I liked the sound of that, too.

Sometime between my Junior and Senior year I realized I didn't have a prayer of actually getting in, then TWO kids from my high school (in OK) ended up going there, and I let it die on the vine. It was hard..... but I recovered.

College of the Atlantic

I'd go there over Harvard or MIT. People or like, "WHat are you doing? You could get into an Ivy League school with your test scores!"A wise man once said, "When too many people agree with you, it's time to reevaluate your decision." At least, I know that I'm not following any well beaten path.

I'm applying to St John's (MD) as well, Brass.

In fact, excluding Reed (average GPA:3.9), none of my colleges have much prestige. When I graduate from one, I'll bring it glory.

xALTRUISTx: There is a thin line between extreme wise and stupidity.

Wow, IvyHope, you're a people person, huh? Way to greet a stranger. Please, elaborate on your inflammatory statement.

I suppose you're talking about the Harvard comment, considering your username. I'm sure Harvard is great, but it's been around forever, and it hasn't really produced THAT many GREAT alumni, considering how many people have gone there.

My point was to just caution you. Sometime people make decision just to negate the existing norms. This is not bad; as most of the time great things happen only because some one tries to go against the norms. But it can burn you hard too.

And sorry the proverb is "There is a thin line between extreme courage and stupidity."

Because such a decision might not be called wise but can be call extremely courageous.

if anything xaltruistx, i commend you for standing your ground in an arena where people are so often told to just go with what is considered the "best", because the best is different for everyone.

:)

^^^^

Ditto,

i know it's prestigious but....
MIT- I <3 U

A perfectly good idea gone to waste.

I liked a school called Northwestern Michigan College. The only real reason was because it was in Traverse City, Michigan, a town I love. We have a cottage we go to up there and it's like escaping my annoying and busy life to go away and relax.

Another school, I don't know anything about LACs so I don't know if it's good or not, is Flagler College. It's in St. Augustine. We have a beach house we visit there (look, my family isn't rich, we don't own either of the properties rather mooch off family friends) and we frequently make trips there as well in the winter. Quaint small town with lots of history (Oldest town in the U.S.).

I don't know, I guess that when I think of a "college", I think of a small private school in the northeast (Pennsylvania to be specific) in a wooded environment, in a small city, where the education is important and there are intellectuals everywhere. My college is about the exact opposite of what I thought college was going to be though, yet I like both places.

There was another place we drove through on our way to NYC, I want to say it was East Stroudsburg, although it may have been Bloomsburg, that fit the description, and I looked out as we were driving by thinking "that's a college". It was just gorgeous, tall trees, green grass, small town, just had the feel of a college to it.

Your turn prestige whores. Try naming a school not ranked in the US News top 100 or something.

I'm not sure what all the hating on the top-100 is for. I said UChicago. Wanna know why? Because UChicago is my "true dream". I'm no "prestige whore", otherwise I would have said Harvard or Yale.

I just really doubt a non-top-100 school could ever be my dream school, because a big part of my dream is tough academics and an intellectual atmosphere. The top-100 are top-100 for a reason.
