For this year, what were the average stats of people receiving one of these scholarships? Thanks! Saving money is always good.

tightend,
SC uses a holistic method of selecting merit scholarship recipients. A student with a 2400 SAT and 4.0 GPA is not guaranteed an invitation to interview for the highest scholarships. Applicants must stand out in a pool of 27,000 seniors. Mork Scholars have achieved not only in the classroom, but also made a strong impact in community service. Recipients may have started a highly successful business, been a published author, done unique research, or recognized nationally for their contributions to the art, music, dance, film, theatre or literary world. Academic excellence is expected.

National Merit Scholars WHO ARE ADMITTED do receive a half tuition scholarship plus a $1,000 per year scholarship from the NMFoundation. These scholars must place USC first on their national merit form. Upon enrollment they receive the USC NMScholar Scholarship. These admitted scholars are not required to interview.

Actually, at least in 2006, NMFs could choose “undeclared” on their NMF forms and choose USC when they were certain that was where they wanted to attend. Also, it is possible to get additional funding from the school that the student is admitted to, e.g. engineering. These awards are renewable upon submitting a one page application for renewal, making satisfatory progress toward graduation and maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA. Trustee awards are HIGHLY competitive–many of those awards are given to students who have also been accepted by ivies.

Yes, NMScholars may indicate USC on their form after April 1st when other letters of admission have been considered.

Thank you, HImom.

In addition to the Presidential and Trustee Scholars there are now Mork Scholars and Stamps Scholars.

Mork and Stamps Scholars are awarded full tuition scholarships and a $5,000 stipend per year.

NMFs received the President award, are they became NMF College-Sponsor winner?
