We've researched previous threads/postings about these scholarships, and ALL postings have cited positive experiences with regards to accepting these scholarships, attending USC, and turning down other prestigious universities.
Are there scholars who had negative experience or remorse from their decision? It's good to have some input from the other side, unless there really isn't any.
This will be helpful for our son. He read these postings, and felt that this will help him with his decision soon. Thanks

I’m making the same decision and would like to hear any negatives too. You/your son/anyone else who’s making this choice could PM me… it’d be nice to talk to someone in the same position!

Son has decided against Cornell, Georgetown and NotreDame. Now deciding between Brown and USC. He is leaning towards USC. He feels that a Trustee Scholarship status is just as prestigious, if not harder to get than getting in to some Ivy school. He will go to attend the admitted student event at Brown to compare with his experience @ USC Explore. We will also speak with the Dept Head at USC to understand the opportunities that a Trustee scholar has. Hopefully, this will be enough info to make our decision. What a good “problem” to have!

Haha I agree, it’s agonizing in a good way. I see what you mean about the prestige… 100 kids named Trustee Scholars out of nearly 46,000 applications? Thats a .2% acceptance rate! …woah. How did I get this again…? Is my math off? Obviously admissions to an Ivy League would probably be bit a bit more self-selecting, and not all of those 46,000 applied by the scholarship deadline, but still.

I’m having trouble with the idea of turning down Pomona right now. It seems like an amazing undergraduate experience. Brown would be a tough one too. USC is really, really great though.

Alfred,
By the deadline 27,000 students applied early to be considered for the largest scholarships. Last year there were 140 Trustee Scholars and 20 Mork Scholars enrolled.

Last year 247 National Merit Scholars enrolled. That does not count the students who enrolled with 36 ACT scores and never took the SAT.

For this class 10 Stamps Scholars have been added. It was just announced Trustee Schoen and his wife will be giving scholarships to military veterans. Ten million dollars was donated for this purpose.

I believe President Nikias had a reception for the Trustee Scholars at his private home. Mr. Mork met with the Mork Scholars.
