Trustee Scholars?

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone knows anyone here who has been awarded the Trustee Scholars scholarship (free tuition)? Just wondering what that student is like as I am sure all the students at Mount Holyoke are fantastic

I was offered this scholarship during the past admission cycle and would be happy to answer any questions you have. Let me know!

My daughter is also a Trustee this year. Feel free to send me a private message if you have any questions. Another parent I “met” on college confidential over a year ago told me about it. Her daughter had also received it. Happy to pay it forward!

Is there a GPA cutoff for this scholarship? I have a relative that wants to apply to MHC.

Mt Holyoke has a page on their website that gives general stats for all their merit scholars. Also the NYTimes did an article on merit aid and Mt Holyoke is one of the schools they interviewed about how it is awarded. But they don’t give specifics. It is very important to interview and show interest.

I am very interested in learning about the Trustee Scholarship. How can I PM you? @Veryapparent

@izzyfrizzy I would love to talk more about the Trustee Scholarship. I think DD may be a good candidate.

@Melandmaya

of course!

I am a current Trustee scholar and willing to answer any questions.

What are a few factors that you think led to them offering you that awesome scholarship?

Can you email me? @Mcwky1999

My daughter (a junior) just toured Mount Holyoke and completely fell in love with the school. Can anyone who received the Trustee scholarship share anything about what they felt distinguished them among the other candidates? Or suggestions on how to best positioning yourself for the award?

@Mcwky1999 wondering if you sent your SAT scores in and if it is necessary to send scores in to be considered for the Trustee scholarship? It doesn’t say if I is a requirement on the website. Thanks!

Hi @travelfamily my trustee scholar daughter did send hers in. I know a few others and as far as I know they all sent in scores. They are not required but I think can help for merit aid.

Hi @time4adventure and @silverpurple… I received the Trustee Scholarship after I applied to MoHo in Fall 2017. I am actually not currently at school (I’m asking a gap year at the moment) but I’m heading there this fall as a Scholar so would love to answer any questions you may have

When I was given the Scholarship, I was actually sent a congratulatory email from the school that told me exactly why they picked me for this scholarship. TBH I had very few extracurriculars compared to other students so it was kind of a miracle. My main one was that I helped set up a community service program for kids in my town… Holyoke loved that. I was also homeschooled, so I think that gave me a different angle. Definitely send SAT scores if they are high, it helps a lot. Also, list everything on the resume… EVERYTHING. I had things on my resume that I honestly thought the school wouldn’t care about, things such as playing the piano and writing novels. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a pastime or if it’s completely unrelated to school, it has a place on the resume! Community service is important too and they actually look for that on your app before giving the award.

Hope that helps

Thanks, AJtheRaven. I wish you all the best in your gap year.

Congratulations AJtheRaven. You will love Mount Holyoke. Cherish every minute of your four years there.

Thank you and you’re welcome!

I’d add that it isn’t always the class president that gets the Trustee…I’d describe mine as a quiet leader whose “resume” was full of compassion. As a parent of a high performing yet quiet and reserved student who went unrecognized by the traditional high school awards and call outs, but made beautiful loving differences in the lives of many for the greater good…well it was amazing for her to receive this scholarship and speaks volumes to me about what qualities Mt Holyoke looks for in a student. Of course I am pretty biased about my daughter!

Thank you. I will!
