Trustee Scholarship applicants - anyone hear back yet?

Congrats to everyone who made it! Do any of you know about housing for trustee scholars? I read on the BU’s webpage that we need to be in housing on the Charles River Campus - does that include all housing for undergrads, or is it more specific?

I found out today that I won! I never heard from my school/counselor as many people did, probably because it’s our spring break and no one is at the school right now. I found out when I checked my application status online. So if you haven’t heard anything yet and haven’t been able to get through to the applicant link website, don’t worry, there might still be hope!

Anyone know the deal with housing?

I read online that there is a house called Boyd Hall that holds functions in the basement and has dorms in the upper levels, but when I looked at it through Google earth (street view), it seemed kind of small to hold all the Trustees.

I assume we all got accepted into the Honors University too, so maybe our dorms are there? Not sure if we are sectioned off or something, but if anyone can clear up this info, please post.

Can’t wait to visit during accepted students day.

Yeah, I think we’re dorming in Towers because we’re in the honors college. I can’t wait to meet everyone! I hope there are lots of people in the honors college and freshmen in Towers.

For people who found out online; is the merit award tab under the financial assistance tab (cause the financial assitance tab is unavailable to international applicants : / )?

ravster
there will be 20 trustees
not that many

There’s 20 trustees from this year, but what about the other ones form previous years?

Also, 20 people in the house seems small and kind of isolated. I’ll check out the housing stuff later, the website is still running a little slow.

well yes. there are probably around 80 or 90 trustees. so therefore we will only add 20
probably about 100 people in the building
i looked on the website and indeed we are living in boyd hall, although honors college gets its own housing so i don’t know what happens you get both

I emailed the professor in charge of the honors college. He said we had both options but he would do whatever he could to try to make sure i got honors housing if I preferred it over boyd hall (which I do, I’d love to meet the trustees along with lots of other people, as nice as a brownstone is. hope some of you pick the same, but if not, I’ll see you guys on weekends anyway!  ). He was incredibly nice which is a relief!

Hey guys
i am an international whos is really glad to also get the trustee scholarship. It’s going to be a tough decision on where to go, but with this scholarship, Bu definitely moved up some spots on my list.
I have some questions thogh: As far as i read, we have the option of living in Towers with all the other UHC students or in a brownstone with us Truestees? If so, which one do you prefer?
One of the biggest reasons, why i applied to US colleges, is the college/campus experience. I guess living in a brownstone wouldn’t help much?
Just another minor issue: I really like to a have a more private bathroom, but i guess with both i have to share it with the whole floor?

I’m thinking of maybe staying at the Trustee House for the first year and depending on how I like it, I will decide to stay or move out.

I heard from upperclassmen that the dorms can get really noisy (even though there are no parties) and it can be disturbing if you want to sleep/study.

Also, I’m sure you won’t miss out on the college experience because we won’t spend most of our times in dorms anyways. Anyone else deciding to stay at the Trustee house? Its not that far from Warren Towers, where most of the freshman are so it doesn’t seem like a disadvantage to live at the brownstone.

Yeah… the shared bathroom seems weird for me too XD lol.

Haha, still getting used to the bathroom idea. I feel like people still spend a lot of time in dorms and make lots of friends in those dorms - after all, other than honors classes, we will be in lots of big lectures the first year or two. Then from there we can make friends at clubs, orientation, and parties. So being in a dorm with 10-20 people who you’ll get to see weekly anyway might make it a bit harder to meet friends than being in a dorm with tons of people who will introduce you to all of their friends and so on. I definitely think the brownstone is great, but we’ll be on the honors floor, so the kids should be a bit quieter/inclined to study, plus if it’s freezing outside there’s a cafeteria right there, as well as a late night snack place, music room, and I think a place to watch movies. Just seems convenient considering Boston weather. However, you should pick whichever makes you feel more comfortable because there are definitely pros and cons to each. And I’ll get to meet you guys anyway! We should make a facebook group or something.

Btw if it makes you more comfortable Towers has only one gender on each floors. Alleviates a bit of bathroom awkwardness, lolz.

that’s the big question, right?
I really dunno whether livin in the brownstones make it harder to socialize. I mean that is a huge pro for going to college to the us for me. at the same time, i don’t really know anything about us college life, nor BU’s social scene

well its about quantity vs quality isn’t it…
just because there are fewer people in a dorm doesn’t necessarily mean less friends
btw, you all should join the facebook group and maybe even make our own extra-exclusive group

I also received the Trustee scholarship, so there’s a very good chance I’ll be going to BU.

I’m reading over this thread now, but do we have a rundown of what exactly the housing situation will be? I got the letter regarding the floor for the Honors College, but what about Trustees?

I visited BU today and went to both the housing options available.

The Towers, where the honors dorms will be located, seem to be good for social life and an administrator said that they are expecting about 50 Honors students.
However, the dorms were really crammed and barely had any place to relax or spread out your homework… there was basically a bunk bed and little room below it for your laptop.
The advantage of choosing this would be more activity and getting to know people on the other floors easier. Even if its more noisy, we will get the freshman experience.

The brownstone housing was awesome. It looked really fancy, so idk how much more expensive it will be. Its basically 4 floors high, excluding the basement (which has laundry + lounge), and there are dorms that are singles and doubles. These were alot more spacious, cleaner, and looked brand new. The big disadvantage is missing out on a lot of the social activity. Some of the professors said choosing an honors dorm might be better, but they seemed really small. The trustee house is in the middle of both the warren dorms and the towers, so it shouldn’t be that hard to get friends over or walk to their residence.

What do you guys think about housing? I am currently leaning towards the Trustee House, but it all depends on how many other ppl are willing to stay there too. I dont want to be one of few ppl to stay in the house, so post your ideas about housing.

cool to have some insights. here are my thoughts on this:
I probably would be going to Warren/Towers just because of the social scene, as this is on e of the main reasons i want to go to the US. i know that you might not get the comfort like in a brownstone, but freshman year is all about bonding and meeting new people and that would be quite difficult in a brownstone.

Later on however, as upperclassmen or sophomores, the thrive for new friends isn’t that big anymore and then I would also live in one of the brownstones. Also keep in mind, that sophomores/upperclassmen trustees also want to stay in the brownstone, so i dunno whether we would get a spot even if we wanted to

Some questions though:
How would you describe the bathroom situation? I heard that the honors floors will be renovated? Aren’t the floors are single-sex? Do you have to purchase a meal plan if living in a brownstone? If so, which dining hall would be closest?
have you made any pictures?

Hmmm… Brownstone sounds nice, but I think I’ll probably go with the Towers for the social scene. I really hope that the Honors floor isn’t single-sex, though. I think it would be a lot more fun to have both guys and girls on the same floor.

It’s the UHC floor in towers for me! I’ll be ok with the bathroom situation and the smaller rooms, that’s the whole freshman thing. Plus, as Trustee scholars we have virtually guaranteed Brownstone housing for the rest of our time at BU, which is way more than other students can say. Can’t wait for fall to roll around

Would you say that UHC/Towers will have the same freshman experience as West/Warren? And I second Metronome, single-sex sounds not that fun
