Trying to cancel SIR to UCSB, they claim there's a glitch in the system

Hello. I recently SIR'd to UCSB thinking I was going to go there, but after I visited the campus I determined it wasn't for me. I called them to request a cancel of my SIR but they claim there's a "glitch" in the system that is preventing them from doing that and none of the reps know anything more than that. It seems kind of sketchy, and I don't want to cut it too close to the June 1st due date for the school I'll be sending my SIR to.

Has anyone else ever heard of this or had any similar problems? It just seems weird to me.

They’re probably not going to refund your deposit. So if you decided to enroll at any school other than another UC campus simply send (don’t call) a letter or email to UCSB saying you decided not to attend after all, and think no more about it. Then enroll where you want to go.

If your other school is also a UC campus it might be a bit tricky if they cross-check. I don’t have any advice for you if your other school is a UC.
